These service awards were established jointly for 3 duchies: Saxe-Meiningen, Saxe-Altenburg and Saxony Coburg and Gotha. Service awards in the form of twine, awarded until then, were replaced by a new uniform in the form of a medal and 1st class in the form of a cross. The old division of years of service into 21 years for 1st class, 15 years for 2nd class and 9 years of service for 3rd class was changed according to the Prussian model to 15, 12 and 9 years of service. Service awards were given to non-commissioned officers and soldiers (enlisted men) at the end and without reprimanding years of service. The contingent of duchies included the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 (Saxe-Meiningen and Saxony Coburg and Gotha) and the 8th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 153 (Saxe-Altenburg). Gendarmerie officers also had the right to admission, in Saxe-Meiningen - courier corps, and in Saxony - Coburg and Gotha - palace guards and employees of tax and correctional institutions.
