Award medals were established by King and Emperor William I in 1861 for infantry, Landwehr, hunters and shooters, cavalry, as well as field and foot artillery.
Medals were issued in various sizes and weights. During the award period, 4 different options were awarded. The first version was developed by C.Pfeuffer Fec. The remaining 3 options belong to Emil Weigand. (Fig. 3. form) You can distinguish versions by the manufacturer's designation. Only the 2nd form does not have a manufacturer's designation on the edge. 3. The form shows E.Weigand Fec as the manufacturer. The 4th form is designated W.E. Weigand FEC.
The following medal values were assigned: 1st form: up to 3 thalers (34.4 mm 43.6 g), up to 2 thalers (34 mm 29.3 g), up to 1.5 thalers (34.4 mm 21.9 g) and up to 0.5 thalers (34.4 mm 14 g). 2nd and 3rd forms: 9 grades (about 42 mm 58.5 g), 6 grades (about 40.2 mm 36 g), 4.5 grades (about 38.1 mm 29.3 g) and 3 grades (about 34.6 mm 22 g). The last and 4th form were awarded in 6 weights and values: up to 12 marks (42 mm 58.5 g), up to 9 marks (40.2 mm 43.5 g), up to 7.5 marks (40.2 mm 36 g), up to 6 marks (38 mm 29.3 g), up to 4.5 marks (35 mm 22 g) and up to 3 marks (30 mm 14.5 g).
Medals of 4.5 marks were awarded most often. Those with the highest value are the rarest. Prices range from 40-50 € to several hundred €, depending on weight and rarity.
