This medal was awarded on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Kaiser Wilhelm I by the grandson of Wilhelm II. Established March 22, 1897. The date is timed to coincide with the opening day of the national monument to the emperor and King William I.
All persons who were then on active duty in the army and navy, as well as all officials of the Survey Office, all retired officers and sanitary officers involved and hired for service, were eligible for admission. As well as members of the gendarmerie in Alsace-Lorraine. Officers and soldiers in the homes of the disabled, and in addition, all participants and veterans of the wars of 1864-1866 and 1870-1871, as well as all members of the colonial troops. In addition, payments to women were possible. These included the ladies of the Order of Louise. Due to the large number of awards, it is not very rare. The number of awards or the amount of manufacture can only be estimated approximately. Prizes are accepted over 1.2 million pieces. The manufacturer of the medals was Otto Oertel. The design of the medal was made by sculptor Professor Walter Schott. The corresponding award document was received from Emil Doepler d. J.). Other manufacturers for on-demand production, abbreviations and miniatures are possible, but already at the time of the award they were called copies. The medal was not refundable. Mockingly also called the lemon order because of the yellow ribbon. Silver-gilded medals are extremely rare. Late-made war metal medals have different eyelets and cost about 10 times more.
Half-measures were also made, which are significantly higher in price.
