This commemorative sign was donated by Grand Duke Ludwig III. in 1869. All soldiers who participated in the campaign under the government of Ludwig I were awarded a commemorative sign. This means, first of all, that the recipients were still living fighters of the liberation wars against Napoleon. Since the liberation wars were more than 50 years ago, very few of the participants are still alive. In addition to the participants, a commemorative badge was also awarded to the Hessian flags of the units that participated at the time.
The exact background of the foundation, as well as its use as a possible adjutant sign, have not been finally clarified. Due to its late founding and the few surviving veterans, this memorial sign is very rare.
High oval, openwork, embossed sign made of gilded bronze. At the back is a vertical pin with a mating hook.
