Service insignia, established back in 1833, were supplemented on October 30, 1839 with the foundation of the military service insignia for 50 years. Grand Duke Ludwig II. established it for officers in gold and for non-commissioned officers in silver for 50 years of innocent military service. Also awarded were persons who were not part of the warring troops, as well as gendarmerie officers. Since 1847, civil servants who served as assessors in military courts for 50 years were also awarded the insignia for officers.
By decree of May 5, 1897, these crosses were reintroduced under the designation of official honorary badges for the highest and lower court ranks, respectively, and were awarded until 1918.
Hollow silver cross. The cruciform shoulders are smooth and polished and have broad raised edges. The ends of the crosses are welded. Front and back with a round central shield (15 mm) worn. On the upper cruciform shoulder is a transverse round ear. A silver crown (20 mm x 23 mm) is mounted in it. A ribbon ring passes through the imperial crown apple.
