Awards Germany - Military insignia 25 years for non-commissioned officers 2nd coinage 1839
The military insignia for 25 years was established by the Grand Duke Ludwig II on December 26, 1833. The awards were given to officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers after 25 years of impeccable service in the military. The award to officers differs in that the cross was made of gold. The first coinage of the award bore Roman numerals on the reverse and was awarded only until 1839. After the founding of the military service insignia for 50 years, the middle reverse shields were modified and bore the number - 25 - (2nd coinage). The first crosses of the 2nd coinage differ from later figures by an obliquely set number - 25 - having numbers of different sizes. Later parts have the same numbers that stand tall. Since 1839, non-combat persons from among the military and gendarmerie employees could also be awarded this award. Since 1847, civilian state employees have also been awarded crosses as assessors at military courts. The award was terminated by a military convention with Prussia on June 8, 1871.
By decree of May 5, 1897, these crosses were reintroduced under the designation of official honorary badges for the highest and lower court ranks, respectively, and were awarded until 1918.
