Service award shown here 2. The class has been awarded since Duke Ernst I took office since 1853. Nemmergut points to the foundation on December 15, 1860. 7 years after coming to power. The award provisions were preserved as much as possible. The circle of recipients was expanded. In addition to the soldiers, starting with the sergeant, gendarmes, military musicians and officials of the Altenburg contingent could also receive a reward if they met the requirements. The 1st class was a silver gilt buckle and was awarded over 12 years of immaculate service. 2nd class was a silver buckle for 9 years of service. The 3rd class had 6 years of service as a mandatory requirement. After the 1867 military convention with Prussia, years of service were adapted to conditions in Prussia. Now 21, 15 and 9 years were compulsory for individual classes. The service award cross for officers was replaced by the Prussian award. Service awards for non-commissioned officers and Altenburg soldiers were received until 1897 in the 1st battalion of the 7th Thuringian infantry regiment No. 96. After that, the Altenburg contingent in the 8th Thuringian Infantry Regiment was 153 people. The gendarmes of Saxe-Altenburg continued to receive these service awards. On August 31, 1913, a joint, ducal, Saxon military service award was established. Exact award figures are not known. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. III, 1999.
