The Order of the Golden Flame was established on December 29, 1757 by Prince Philip Ernst I along the Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst line. The occasion was the 95th birthday of the prince. The order was initially reserved only for princely descendants. It should serve as a bond of friendship for its children, their descendants and immediate family. The slogan of the order was "IN SENIO," at an older age or even an elder (at home). Early crosses do not have a solution on the medallion of the front side. The first statutes to the order were issued only in 1776. The Master of the Order was the corresponding senior in the house. The prince's successor, his son, Prince Karl Albrecht I, expanded the order into the 2nd class, called the chivalric order of the Phoenix. After the reorganization of the order, it could be awarded to other German and foreign nobles. For this, an order commissioner was appointed. The presence of the German nobility of at least 4 generations was proved, and foreigners also had a noble model. For the order cross, men were also awarded a breast star. The manufacture of the order is indicated in bronze gold. The order of princesses (ladies) shown here on the women's loop is made of gold. A distinctive feature of women's orders is that the phoenix in the medallion looks to the left, and a slogan is visible above the bird. Other crosses, as well as the house and chivalric order of the Phoenix, depict the Phoenix facing to the right. Notable manufacturers of the order were Hofjuwelier Steinam, Stuttgart and Godet Berlin. The Order of the Golden Flame is one of the rarest orders of German princely houses. Due to the small size of the principality and the obligation to return after death, specimens are extremely rare. For these 72 awards until 1859, 26 awards of princesses and ladies were made.
