German Awards - German States - Hohenlohe - Principality

The former county, first mentioned around 1153, was in Frankish territory and was elevated to a principality in 1744 and 1764, respectively. This was preceded in 1533 by the division into the Catholic Hohenlohe-Waldenburg line and the Protestant Hohenlohe-Neuenstein line. Other divisions followed. The Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Hohenlohe-Öhringen branches were Prussian Dukes of Uest from 1861. The branches of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen, Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst, Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst, Hohenlohe-Jagstberg from 1840 were the Prussian dukes of Ratibor and the princes of Corvey. In 1806, these lands lost their sovereignty. Through the Rhine Union Act, most of the land passed to the kingdom of Württemberg, and the smaller to Bavaria. The order was established by the Catholic line of the house of Hohenlohe. The master of the order was the corresponding senior on the Hohenlohe-Waldenburg line .
