320 - 350 € minor medal
During the reign of Duke Alfred, the medal, originally donated by Duke Ernst, was provided with other statutes and established on January 1, 1896. The award of the medal served the same purpose as under Duke Ernst. Persons were awarded whose merits for awarding various degrees of the Order of the Saxon Ernestine House were insufficient and were not considered for awarding a medal for art and science. The Duke Alfred Medal was awarded in 2 versions. The large medal shown here was 50 mm in size and had a wide ironing eye and was worn as a neck order. The small version had a size of 35 mm and a weight of about 24 g. In addition, she had a round regular eye. Like his predecessor, Duke Alfred reserved the right to award a gold medal on particularly suitable occasions. During this time, not a single gold (silver) medal was awarded. The medals were made in Nuremberg. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. III, 1999.
