This commemorative coin was presented by King Ludwig III. 1918 and was intended as a Christmas present. All military units of which he was the owner should have received this medal. At the same time, it was to become a belated commemorative coin of his Golden Wedding on February 20, 1918. In total, about 14 thousand coins were minted. The seal of the front side was made by Professor Theodore George. The reverse was designed by medalist Alois Bursh. After the November Revolution, the issue of coins ceased. Initially, they were made without an eye and a ring. In the spring of 1922, the coins were given to Crown Prince Ruprecht because his father King Ludwig III. to produce them at his own expense. On the occasion of the solemn funeral of his father, who died on October 18, 1921, a large number of coins were distributed to the funeral participants. In addition, this coin was received by persons who received merits in the revival and cultivation of domestic thought (monarchy). Later, the coin was allowed to be equipped with an eye and a ribbon ring and worn as a portable medal on the ribbon of the anniversary medal.
