The cross was presented on August 1, 1917 by the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV. The awards were awarded to Mecklenburg men and women who received merits in military service at home and for outstanding services in domestic or charitable affairs. Especially in institutions and enterprises that were important for warfare, and in the Red Cross. During this time, about 1,000 crosses were awarded to men. Elongated cross made of gilded brass. The lower sacrum is longer than the others. The cruciform shoulders are curved inwards at the ends and have a wide, raised polished rim. The inner sides of the cruciform sleeves and the middle shield are finely indented. Front and back with an engraved circular central shield. (7 mm) Between the cruciform sleeves at a distance is a narrow laurel wreath.
