The Medal of Merit of the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II was established in three stages on February 28, 1859 without canceling the Medal of Merit (Honest Man and Good Citizen), established by his predecessor. The medal was awarded to civilians and military persons without observing the rank for good and faithful services for the benefit of the Grand Ducal House and the Fatherland. Further for individual special glorious deeds and for outstanding achievements in science, art and trade. 2 versions of the medal were made. The first series, awarded until 1872, with the bald head of Friedrich Franz II with a cheek and mustache. Bronze medals were gilded. In the cervical department of manufacturers - W.KULLRICH F. -. The second series was awarded until 1918 and depicts an arsonist with a strong beard. In the fields of manufacturers - KULLRICH - (without F.and W.).
