The Women's Cross for Merit in the Duchy of Braunschweig was established on April 25, 1912 by Duke Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg. After Prince Albrecht of Prussia, from 1907 he was regent of the duchy. The Women's Cross "For Merit" was established in the 2nd grade. 1st class with the same design was gilded. It was awarded... " women and virgins earned by selfless personal activities in the field of charity." The 1st class was to be awarded only to women who had previously occupied the 2nd class for 10 years. (Code of Laws and Decrees No. 36 of April 25, 1912) After the end of World War I and the subsequent abolition of the monarchy and the abdication of the princes, this decree could not be implemented. The awarding of the first class takes place according to special rules. The manufacture of the order was carried out by the court jeweler German Jurgens from Braunschweig. Women's merit crosses are very rarely awarded. Requell and Fisher "Orders, honorary signs and signs of the Duchy of Braunschweig-Luneburg..." indicate only 9 awards for 1st grade and only 20 awards for 2nd grade.
