The order was established on December 15, 1865 by the King of Hanover, George V. It consisted of 5 classes: the Grand Cross, Komturkreuz 1st class, Komturkreuz 2nd class, Knight's Cross 1st class and Knight's Cross 2nd class. The name of the order should remind of 2 ancestors. The Grand Master of the Order was the King. The order was awarded for services to the state, excellent civic virtues, merits in art and science, as well as personal recognition of the king. The Order of Ernst Augustus was in the rank of the Order of the Guelphs. The awarding of the Order of Gelfen assumed that the natives had the Order of Ernst-Augustus in the corresponding class. In the event of an increase or death of the awarded, the order was subject to return. Attached to the order were the 1st and 2nd. Merit Cross. Awarding knightly crosses of the 1st and 2nd. The class was not tied to any particular rank. Possession of the Order of Guelph 4th class was not a prerequisite for awarding. The knight's cross of the 2nd class is made of silver as opposed to the upper classes. They are made of gold. Recipients could be civilians, as well as military personnel, foreigners and foreigners. Due to the short lease term, it is extremely rare. The second class was awarded about 550 times. The author of the project was the chief court construction council Justus Molthan. Source: J.
