- Weight: About 18.4g
This commemorative medal was instituted on the occasion of Queen Mary of Hanover's 81st birthday by Duke Ernst August of Cumberland on 14 April 1898. This medal was awarded to persons from the queen's inner circle, relatives, as well as her close associates. The medal is not an official award, but is a portable commemorative gift, and not a badge of honor in the proper sense of the word. The author of the project is K.U.K. Chamber engraver Jauner from Vienna. There are medals with a variable reverse font. This concerns the spelling of the word - MAJESTÄT -. As with the medal shown here, the word is spelled incorrectly - MÄJESTAT -. A commemorative sign was worn on the regular ribbon ring on the men's ribbon and on the elongated pearl-embellished ribbon ring on the women's loop for women. Hessenthal and Schreiber also talk about the bronze medal. It, as usual, was intended for the lower strata of the population. The award is no longer known, nor can the award number be named.
