This commemorative and honorific badge was probably presented on August 16, 1910 by Grand Duke Frederick Augustus, as a cavalier of the regiment. The occasion was the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Mars-la-Tour. This honorary sign was received at the celebrations, at the monument to the Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 19, still living members of the regiment in the battle on August 16, 1870.
Formed in 1849, the regiment, according to the military convention of 1867-1919, was a contingent of the Prussian army. The regiment consisted of only 3 squadrons instead of the usual 5th commander of the Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 19 was Colonel Ernst Otto von Trota. In the horse battle at Mars-la-Tour, dragoons participated in horse battles against the French cavalry. Under the command of General von Barbey, 5 regiments attacked the heights of Bruville. Having suffered heavy losses, significantly outnumbered French troops were forced to retreat to the Metz fortress. The battle became known thanks to the so-called "deadly ride of the Bredov brigade." By the 40th anniversary of this battle, very few former battle fighters remained alive. This makes the badge of honor very rare.
Massively knocked out sign in bronze in the form of an oak-leafy branch. On the back is a vertical pin.
