1848/49 Veterans Memorial Medal
- Material: gold bronze
- Size: 28.5mm
- Weight: about 10.8g
This commemorative medal for veterans of 1848 and 1849 was established by Grand Duke Nicholas Friedrich Peter on July 4, 1898. The occasion was the 50th anniversary of the war with Denmark. „… to give the veterans who participated fifty years ago in the wars of Schleswig and Holstein in 1848 and 1849 an external sign of memory of those times." This medal was received by former soldiers who honorably participated in these campaigns in the Oldenburg troops. The presentation included a certificate of ownership. The Oldenburgers supplied the federal troops with 1 infantry regiment in 3 battalions and a 6-pound battery. Due to the advanced age of veterans after 50 years, the number of veterans still alive should have been significantly less. The exact date of the award is unknown, since the documents were destroyed in the 1920s.
