The submarine Frontspange in bronze was donated on May 15, 1944 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine Karl Dönitz. On November 24, 1944, the front shoulder in silver was donated as a higher stage. Thus, the constant hard work of submarine crews against enemy military and merchant ships was appreciated. In addition, injustice should be eliminated in relation to other types of weapons that have long received front-line braces. Already in 1941, submarine crews appeared, which exceeded the conditions for obtaining an anti-submarine combat mark. The exact rules of the award are unknown. Denitz reserved the right to change them depending on the situation. A prerequisite for the award, in addition to impeccable leadership, was considered successful participation in military campaigns or special merits in battle. However, the practice of appropriation was focused on completed naval days or enemy trips. The screed was not refundable, and was also awarded posthumously and awarded to the families of the victims. There are 2 mounting options. The main distinguishing feature, as here, is the recessed relief centre portion of the rear side in the first mould. The second form has a central background. There are differences in the needle system. 1st form with a smooth needle and a flat response hook. 2nd form with a twisted needle and a round mating hook. Due to the different quality of zinc, the weight of the braces fluctuates relatively strongly. The front bar in gold for submarines was planned, but was never awarded. Whether copies have already been made is unknown. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen before 1945, vol. IV, 2001.
