In recognition of the extra, harsh and dangerous service of the crews of minesweepers, submarine hunters and security organizations, on August 31, 1940, this military badge was established by the Commander-in-Chief of the Kriegsmarine, Grand Admiral Raeder. The award could be awarded to all crew members who meet the following requirements: in addition to good and impeccable leadership (no arrest in the last 6 months), participation in at least 3 battles. This military badge was also awarded with excellent individual acts or participation in a special task. The decision was made by the fleet commander. The number of awardees is estimated at about 4,400.

High oval openwork work mark made of non-ferrous metal. At the back is a vertical pin.
