Germany Awards - Non-Combat Oval Shield

This commemorative sign was donated for the 10th anniversary of Albert Leo Schlageter's execution by the Schlageter Memorial Union.
Schlageter was a fighter of the Freikor Petersdorf Corps in the Leuvenfeld Marine Brigade. He participated, in particular, in the Kappovsky putsch and the suppression of the March uprising, as well as the assault on Annaberg. When the Ruhr region was occupied in 1923, Schlageter acted illegally and led Essen's strike group in the Heinz organization. There he made explosions on the railway.
On May 26, 1923, he was sentenced to death by a French military tribunal and executed.
In the Weimar Republic, Schlageter was revered as a martyr and thus the Schlageter Memory Union was formed.
The impact shield was produced in 3 forms: thyroid (1st form), oval (2nd form) and round (3rd form). Signs for fighters have crossed swords at the bottom of the 2. The shield depicted here is for non-fighters without swords and is very rare. It was received by prisoners who could not take an active part in the hostilities.
The wearing of the shield was banned by a new order law in 1936, and the Bund was dissolved.

Oval icon in non-ferrous metal. On the front side are the icons of the corresponding combat mission. At the back is a vertical pin.

Front side:

• The oval sign is bounded on the edge by a left laurel wreath on the right of an oak deciduous wreath.
• This one at the bottom is tied in a loop. The lower third is separated by a wide horizontal ribbon .
• On it is the inscription: - Schlageter -. In the lower part there are 2 crossed swords (fighters) here without for non-combatants.
In the
• center of the ribbon is an elongated cross. On the right and left next to it are signs with a place on the left and a year on the right.

Downside:

• Smooth with vertical pin and manufacturer designation. The splint of the shields sticks out.
