The Saxon Cross of Honor of War was issued by the Union of Saxon front-line soldiers in the German Union of Warriors in 1914/18. The Union established for its members many different military honorary crosses, knightly crosses and medals. They were awarded as crosses (1st class) or as ribbon decoration (2nd and 3rd class). They were mostly with white enameled cruciform arms. This shape of crosses with rounded ends of the cross and a 4-angled radial wreath was given a white-green color. Ribbon decoration also occurs with the crown and crossed swords underneath on the upper cruciform sleeve. In this form, white pin crosses in gold with crossed swords through the center and green pin crosses in silver without swords were also granted. A neck cross is mentioned as a special form. Although military honorary crosses were issued by the Union, they had to be paid by the carrier. Source: J. Nemmergut, insignia and awards of German warrior clubs 1800-1943, 2012.
