Awards of Germany - Prussian Honorary Cross of the 1st class for 1914-1918 (option)
The cross shown here is a variant with the ends of the loop wound. Differences - a larger and lighter-looking oak wreath from under the central shield. The enameled medallion here is 20 mm in size, in the version without fluttering loop ends, the medallion is only 18 mm in size. The transverse body is uniform 45.2 mm. The undertail of oak foliage is also larger than 28 mm versus 24 mm. The crown above the medallion is red or just gold, as here. Whether the various variant makers or crosses were only tailored to the taste of the times, it should remain open for me.
This cross was established by the Association of Prussian War Veterans in the German Union of Warriors 1914-1918 e. V. for especially honored participants in the 1st World War. Probably, the possession of the Iron Cross of the 1st class was a prerequisite for the award, as in many other national military units. 3 different variants are known. Shown here, with a wreath without fluttering loops, the 2nd option has 2 fluttering loop ends on the wreath below, and the 3rd option has a golden border with golden swords. (For more details, I would be grateful) Since there were no orders and commemorative awards in the Weimar Republic, numerous military and soldier associations created in memory of the world war established their own awards. Such crosses were instituted by the various warrior unions of the Weimar Republic for their members in their respective colours and arms. Crosses were issued by clubs, but, as a rule, were paid by themselves.
Various online auctions often sell counterfeits, which are mainly discovered due to the unclean font in the medallion.
