The membership badge shown here was introduced from September 5, 1920, with the renaming of the "German Union of Nurses and Nurses" to the "German Union of Professional Medical and Social Services," and was awarded only until the dissolution of the union in 1933. Members were integrated into the Imperial Association of Community Enterprises.
The association began in 1903. The German Nurses and Allied Trades Union was founded on 18 October 1903. Georg Streiter became CEO. At Delegate Day on January 13, 1907 in Berlin, he succeeded Karl Hinche as chairman of the association. It also saw the renaming of the "German Nurses' Union." The purpose of the association was to develop the nursing profession from a cross-cutting profession to a life profession. This includes in-depth training and improving the economic and social situation of carers. Georg Streiter remained chairman until 1922. Therefore, the federation also bore the epithet "Association of Debaters." Streiter wrote a book on the situation of nursing in Germany, which is considered the first scientific work. Membership grew from 879 in 1907 to 1,409 in 1909. After World War I, he co-founded the German People's Party (DVP) in many political positions. He was a city deputy in Berlin and a member of the Reichstag. Due to the small number of members, the Union in 1922 merged with the Central Union of Community Workers and Road Workers into the "Central Union of Workers of Public Enterprises and Administrations."
Whether they were awarded after the merger is unknown. Nevertheless, the sharply falling number of members speaks of the number of purchases of several hundred pieces.
