German Awards - Member of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Promotion of Sciences
The membership badge of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society for the Promotion of Sciences was issued to members of the Society. The member badge was only allowed to be worn for the duration of the membership. Membership was tied to an entry fee of 20,000 marks and an annual fee of 1,000 marks. The icon included a translation letter. Once membership ceased, the badge had to be returned because they remained in the possession of the society. Kaiser Wilhelm Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e. V (KWG) was founded on January 11, 1911, and was a founding member of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute (KWI). By 1943, 28 institutes had been established. The presidents were Adolf von Harnack (1911-1930) and Max Planck (1930-1936) and (1945-1946). The successor to KWG is the Max Planck Society, named after him, which gradually took over the KWG institutes. In addition to the badge of merit, the KVG awarded the senatorial insignia, the member's badge and the honorary insignia. The president carried a chain of offices.
The manufacturers were Gebr.Hammerle in Munich. The author of the project is Karl Sattler, director of the Munich State School of Applied Arts. Small pins (18.5 x 11 mm) were also made by Deschler München. Since badges were subject to strict returns, they are very rare. There are badges with and without a silver stamp.
