This medal was established on October 8, 1930 by the board of directors of the Bavarian Fire House. Individuals were awarded for services to the fire department far beyond the scope of official duties, for 5 years of well-deserved work as a firefighter and non-firefighters who highly deserved the fire service.
The Branderheim Society was founded on October 13, 1910. The first attempts to create a shelter for firefighters began in 1878. Early attempts to find suitable accommodation were rebuffed. The first site in Middle Franconia and the inherited villa in Sülzburg (Middle Franconia) were not suitable. A tender was then held throughout Bavaria. Then in 1924 "Villa with a beautiful view" was acquired in Gmain on Berchtesgarden land. On September 24, the holiday home was commissioned. A few months later, the roof burned down and the house was closed for a year. At the beginning of the war, the club was disbanded, and the house was expropriated and used as a hospital for the Wehrmacht. Newly formed after the war, in 1951 an agreement was concluded with the Free State of Bavaria, which provided the club with free use. In the 70s and 80s, a bathhouse and various extensions were carried out, as well as reconstructions. The firehouse in Gmain is the oldest of its kind in Germany and still has an international reputation.
This medal is one of the rarest awards in the fire industry. The manufacturer of the medal was Chr. Lauer from Nuremberg. Exact award figures are not known.
