The "Falken" ("falcon button") button of the local militia in Essen is a special case or self-will of the local militia in Essen. This badge was only issued to members in Essen. As a button maker for the people of Essen, B. H. Mayer of Pforzheim is known. As for the small number of buttons issued, only this manufacturer will be responsible. The design differs from the general falcon button by rewriting, as well as the background. (What building is depicted there, I could not determine, for the hint I am grateful). In addition, a medallion without a raised edge and beaded cord. After the introduction of the Stadtwehnadel membership mark had a positive effect in Bremen, the Central Office of Prussian Residents decided to create a single membership mark. At the same time as the Bronze Falcon Button, a silver (silvered) falcon button was presented to distinguish honored members. The VIII detachment of the Guards Cavalry Rifle Division was responsible for the design and commissioning, choosing the hawk as a symbol of vigilance. Who is responsible for the project is unknown. Applications for awarding the Silver Falcon Button were to be submitted to the Central Directorate of Defense of Berlin Residents. The award then took place with a cover letter from the central office and a large-format color award act. Despite publication in "Everyman" magazine, specific award figures are not known. The bronze falcon button as a membership badge was to be paid for by the militia members themselves. The population was about 910,000. The manufacture of the badge was most likely carried out by several manufacturers due to the great need. It was not possible to determine the number of membership badges issued, as well as the Silver Hawk Buttons handed out. There are buttons with various mounts, with a disc as a button mount and various pin attachments. The award ended in 1921 with the disbandment of the central apparatus and squads of residents. As a special, local button, the falcon button - food is much less frequent and, accordingly, more expensive.
