The Baltic Regiment is a volunteer corps in Estonia that fought during the Estonian Liberation War of 1918-1920. It was created in November 1918 from the German Balts to counter the capture of the Republic of Estonia by the Red Army. The commander was Colonel Konstantin von Weiss, a former colonel of the tsarist, Russian army. Troops were recruited in Rakvere and were still part of the 5th Estonian Regiment. After the first battles and retreat to the Imavere area on December 29, the compound connected with another German-Baltic unit under the command of Captain Victor von der Mühlen. The combined troops of about 450 people were called the Baltic Regiment. In 1919, the number of troops increased to 800 people. In the course of the war, the regiment fought on the Narva River, the city of Gdov and the offensive in October 1919 with a march to St. Petersburg. Most of the regiment remained in the Yamburg area. After the conclusion of peace on February 2, 1920 in Tartu, the regiment was sent to the coast guard in Northern Estonia, and in July 1920 returned to Rakvere and in August began to disband. Colonel Konstantin von Weiss continued to serve in the army of the Republic of Estonia. In 1945 he fled to Holstein.
The cross was produced by different manufacturers. The size varies from 49.3 mm to 46 mm. Miniatures and half-sizes are also known. Famous producers are Roman Tavast from Tallinn, V.
