This cross was probably established as the highest degree by the unification of the Bavarian front-line soldiers into the German Union of Warriors in 1914/18. with headquarters in Leipzig around 1920. In addition to this cross, three different crosses of memory of the war were also issued. They are blue-white enameled or without enameled cruciform sleeves. In Jörg Nemmergut's book "Insignia and Awards of German Warrior Societies..." it is named the Bavarian Star War Remembrance Cross. However, the Bavarian Cross of Honor 1 is on the association's certificate. Class 1914/18. The club name is also incorrect. On the document it is written in the text and on the stamp "Vereinigung Bay (e) rischer Frontsoldern 1914/18 im Deutschen Kriegerbund 1914/18 e. V., based in Leipzig, not Bayerische Feld-Kommeraden. Nothing is known about the requirements for awarding. It can be assumed that the Excellent was supposed to be a member of the Union and prove his merits and participation in the war. After the 1st World War, there was no state award in memory of the war. Thus, land military alliances, as well as alliances specially created for these purposes, often created very attractive commemorative crosses and even knightly crosses for soldiers who participated in the war. The cross presented here is significantly less common than the crosses on the ribbon. Since the awards had to be paid by the borrower himself, it can also be assumed that this was also significantly more expensive than the ribbon decorations.
