German Awards - Aircraft Commander and Observer Badge (Double Badge)
The joint sign for air traffic controllers and observers was established on January 19, 1935 by Reich Minister of Aviation Hermann Goering.
This double sign could be purchased by carriers of the sign "Aircraft Commander" or "Observer" if they additionally underwent training for lack of qualifications and met the requirements of another sign, and also had an individual sign for at least 1 year. Early badges were made of non-ferrous metal (tombac). Towards the end of the war, versions from Feincink also came to the award. As a special class, the double badge was also awarded with gold and diamonds. It was not officially established, but awarded as a badge of honor by Göring personally from March 16, 1935. About 30 awards are known, including 2 women. Source: J. Nimmergut, German Orders and Insignia until 1945, vol. IV, 2001.
