This cross was received by men and women who for more than 2 years performed military work at home and conscientiously and sacrificially participated in it. The order was established on December 5, 1916 by King and Emperor William II. There were no differences in the rank and status of the awarded. With exceptions, the cross was also awarded to residents of allied states. For services to the Red Cross, the award of the Red Cross Medal should continue. The cross for assistance in the war could also be worn along with military awards already received, such as the Iron Cross. The presentation took place with a certificate of ownership. There was no duty of return.
Very few crosses are made of aluminum and silver. The price is several times higher than that of crosses made of fine zinc.
