Awards of Germany - Silver Medal of the Order of the Saxe-Ernestine House of 1914 for services to the homeland
The silver medal for the merits of the Duke of Saxe-Ernestine Order with the image of Duke Ernst II. was introduced shortly after his assumption of office on February 7, 1908. The modified front side was designed by sculptor Otto Pech from Altenburg. Production was handled by L. Christian Lauer in Nuremberg.
In 1914, the state ministries of 3 duchies decided to assign annual bandages (without swords) for services to the homeland. Straps in silver for the Silver Medal of Merit or silver gilt for the Gold Medal of Merit. The gold medal "For Merit" with a clasp in 1914 was awarded only 4 times. For a silver medal, I do not know a single award.
The first form of the medal "For Merit" with a portrait of Duke Frederick was awarded from 1834 to 1871. In 1864, affiliated merit medals were divided into gold (silver gilded) and silver merit medals. The Stempelschneider was Professor Ferdinand Helfricht (1809-1892), since 1831 a court engraver at the Gothic Mint. The 2nd form of medals "For Merit" under Duke Ernst (I) was awarded with a modified obverse from 1871 to 1908. Swords and swords without swords indicating the year were donated for the war of 1870/71. For members of the Chinese expedition of 1901/1902 and for South West Africa of 1905/1906, swords were awarded without specifying the year. For World War I, swords were mounted on tape or in the ear.
