This medal of merit was ordered without direct reason by the regent Princess Polina. The date of the order is indicated as the date of foundation. The reason was the recognition of general merits that could not be awarded an agricultural medal. Charters or award requirements were also not adopted. The princess personally made a drawing of the medal, which, if necessary, should have been even better worked out. The manufacture of stamps was carried out by the medalist Daniel Friedrich Loos in Berlin. Awarding, as a rule, was carried out at the request of a higher state body. At first, rescue statuses, feats in extinguishing fires, as well as clergy and teachers were awarded many times. Rewarding for many years of service is also possible. The ribbon was presented separately by the princess. Most of the medals were awarded while living without a ribbon. After 1867, life-saving exploits were awarded the Silver Badge of Honor, and since 1888 - the Rescue Medal. With the founding of the Gold and Silver Medal for Merit in 1888, the medal continued to lose its significance and was awarded mainly to service anniversaries. On the 100th anniversary of the medal, it was renamed the Paulin Medal. 2 conclusions were given. The form depicted here with a tightly flattened ribbon ring was awarded from 1817 to 1902. The later 2nd form has a ball eye with a ribbon ring. The 1st form under Loos had a circulation of 300 pieces. The 2nd form of L. Ostermann (successor to Loos) had a circulation of 100 pieces. Only 267 medals are listed on the award sheets. Source: Rainer Schwark, order and badge of honor of the principality of Lippe Detmold 1778-1933, works of the Lipp Land Museum, vol. VI, 2005.
