Medal "For Merit in Art and Science" 3 was established on December 7, 1889 by Prince Karl Gunther. At the same time, medals were established for merit in trade and commerce, as well as in the field of agriculture. As before, the medal was awarded in gold and silver. Non-wearable medals were also awarded. Since 1898, the brand of the front side has been changed again. The head of the prince is now more pronounced. The main distinguishing feature of the two embossments is the tip of the cervical region. In the older embodiment, there is approximately a 1.5 mm gap between the edge and the tip of the cervical region. In a newer embodiment, the neck portion contacts the edge. The old form is extremely rare.
