Germany Awards - 1915 Duke Charles Edward Oval Medal with Sword and Ribbon
Duke Carl Edward of Saxony Coburg and Gotha instituted the Carl Edward Silver Medal on 10 March 1911. This medal replaced Karl Eduard's small round silver medal of 1905. The reason was the confusion with the silver medal for the merits of the Order of the Saxe-Ernestine House.
A sword with a date ribbon to the silver oval medal of Karl Eduard was donated on May 22, 1915. This special award was very rarely presented. Swords numbered 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917 and 1918 were awarded. Special is the date tape, on which the date of a particularly brave act is engraved. Citizens of the Duchy of Coburg-Gotha, already awarded the Iron Cross of the 1st class and the Order of the House with swords, were awarded. The award was to be requested at the Secret Office in Coburg. The medal in any case includes a sword with a date ribbon. Swords without tape dates were established without permission and were not awarded. Award numbers - only 2 pieces for the 1914 screed. The clasp medal shown here was awarded only 21 times in 1915. In 1916 - 41 medals, in 1917 - 118, and in 1918 - 159 medals. Simultaneously with the sword with the Date ribbon, the ribbon "For Merit to the Fatherland" was established with the named dates of the year, which was awarded only a few times. The oval medal maker was L. H. Lauer, Nuremberg. The signature can be found on the edge of the medal. In silver medals, the silver score - 990 - also hit the rim. Another manufacturer was Paul Meibauer, Berlin, who also made medals from silver-plated base material. Extradition was carried out through the court jeweler Willy Ganssen from Coburg. Source: J.
