This award was established on 16 May 1832 by Prince Paul Alexander Leopold II. introduced. At the insistence of the military, an honorary badge was to be created in the principality for participating in the Napoleonic wars, by analogy with other small German states. Only officers, senior officials and dignitaries were awarded the medal. During the war of 1870/71, the Military Merit Medal was not awarded. Here military merits were marked by other honorary signs and swords of the Order of the House. Since 1888, the award has been suspended. 1908 updated Prince Leopold IV. medal. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers with silver swords on the ribbon are then awarded. Only 4 awards are known. The 1832 edition was made in Berlin by Gottfried, Bernhard Loos. The circulation was 200 pieces. In 1908, Karl Busch from Hanover made another 100 medals. During the World War, 59 medals were awarded (1914-1915). The medal was subject to return. The medals were made by G. Loos on the Berlin medal coin and were awarded unchanged until the outbreak of war in 1914. There are medals with a regular wire eye and a steel spring ring.
