This medal was established on August 10, 1867 by Duke Leopold Friedrich of Anhalt. The occasion was the 50th anniversary of the Duke's reign. The medal was not an official state award. The medal was semi-official in nature. It was created in 2 stages from silver and bronze. The medal was awarded at celebrations marking the anniversary of the government. As usual in such cases, the higher level was probably awarded to princely and high-ranking guests. There are no documents that contain information about the distribution, quantity or fund. The design and manufacture of the medals is attributed to the Duke of Dessau by the court goldsmith Eberhardt. However, it was not possible to prove this. This also applies to the estimated number of embosses of 25 pieces and the consumption of 13 pieces. Bronze medals were also privately gilded. Whether a certificate of ownership was issued is also unknown. Source: Gerd Scharfenberg, Order and Badge of Honor of the Anhalt States, 1999.
