The medal was established on December 4, 1815 by the Grand Duke Karl Augustus. Servicemen who conscientiously and courageously performed their duty on campaigns since 1809 and were not guilty of any offense or crime were to be awarded. The issue of rewarding and dignity was decided by a commission consisting of senior military officials. The medal was awarded with a certificate listing the merits of the carrier. After the death of the awarded medal was subject to return. Markey was most likely cut by Gottfried Bernhard Loos, in whose Berlin medals medals were minted. Only a few silver medals were minted. They have an eye on longer bridges and are extremely rare. 24 medals were minted, of which only 12 awards.
