The medal "For saving lives" was established on February 28, 1903 by the Duke of Saxony Meiningen Georg II. donated. The faces of the duchy were awarded, which with courage and determination, risking their own lives, saved the unfortunate person from mortal danger. The award was made by the Duke, who received offers from the Ministry of State. The medal was not subject to return and remained with the heirs of the awarded. The seal of the front side (the head of the duke) is modeled on the high relief of Professor K. von Zumbusch, who works at the Vienna Academy. K. and K. Stempelschneider was A. Börsch from Munich. The latter also produced a reverse side stamp.
Due to the size of the country and the short award period, these medals are very rare and expensive. The face value of the medal is indicated in only 25 pieces. Source: J. Nimmergut, Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945, vol. III, 1999.
