The Cross for Distinction in War for Women was established on June 17, 1915 by the Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI. donated. Citing the founding in 1871 and the renewal of the cross for distinction in the 1914 war, he instituted the cross in a reduced form for women. Women who have received special services in the field of charity should be awarded. The cross was worn on a female loop. At the award there was a box and an award certificate. The manufacturer of the crosses was Godet & Sohn, Berlin. Until 1917, silver crosses were awarded. In the last year of the war, crosses made of silver-plated metal were awarded. Gaudet made 96 crosses in silver and 50 in silver-plated material. A total of 126 awards were received. Thus, the cross for women is significantly less common than the 2nd grade for men, and even less common than the 1st grade for men "Brave and Faithful" with 398 awards.
