Awards of Germany - Cross for distinction in the war of the 2nd class of 1914
This military merit cross was established by the Grand Duke Adolf Frederick VI. re-launched. The first crosses were donated by Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm in 1871. Like these crosses, crosses were to be awarded for meritorious service in the war. Officers up to soldiers were awarded, as well as military officials. For non-combatants, the cross was awarded on a red ribbon. Several crosses have an inscription - FOR COURAGE - and were awarded only to princely persons and are extremely rare. The crosses were made by Godet & Sohn in Berlin. Until 1917, crosses were made of silver. As of 1917, the crosses were silver-plated. A total of 4,245 silver crosses were delivered, silver-plated copies by 1919 only 3,241 were delivered. Since 1915, a 1st class cross was established for re-awarding in the war. Since then, the cross has been called the Cross of the 2nd class. Источник: Peter Ohm-Hieronymussen, Die Mecklenburg-Strelitzer Orden und Ehrenzeichen, 2000.
