This commemorative sign was presented by Grand Duchess Elizabeth with the approval of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Alice (Auxiliary) Union.
The Alice Women's Association was founded on September 7, 1869 in Darmstadt by Alice (Princess of Great Britain and Ireland), wife of the future Grand Duke Ludwig IV. Hesse, founded jointly with Louise Buchner. The first missions of the association were in the hospitals of the wars of 1866 (still as a subsidiary association) and 1870/71. The association aimed to make nursing a paid female profession. The free sisterhood "Alice" left the club.
Due to the fact that the Alice Association was founded in 1867, and not officially in 1869, as the Alice Women's Association, the 50th anniversary should be considered as the anniversary of the Alice Relief Association.
The awards were presented exclusively to distinguished members of society who advocated the goals of public welfare and women's education.
Rectangular clasp made of silver or silver-plated non-ferrous metal. This is inscribed on a small ribbon loop in the colours of the Ludwig Order. The 2-pin brace is connected to a rectangular backside panel. It's with a horizontal pin.
