Germany Awards - Duke Ernst 1st Class Medal with Swords - Cross Pin

The cross was established on 29 June 1918 by Duke Ernst II. donated. It served as a replacement for the previously awarded medal of Duke Ernst with swords. The medal could be exchanged for a new award on demand. This also applied to other military awards received during the World War. The exceptions were the gallantry medal and the Duke Ernst medal with oak leaves/swords. They could be worn next to the cross.

Mattsilburn Cross with inlaid round medal. Crosses in front with polished wide edges. The inner sides are finely indented. At a short distance between the cross sleeves, a wreath of left oak foliage and right laurel. 2 crossed swords pass through the center, which are superimposed on a wreath and slightly rise above it. At the back is a vertical pin.

Front side:

• Inlaid medal with the minting of the former Duke Ernst Medal.
In the
• center of the picture is a portrait of Ernst II. in uniform.
• On the margins there is an inscription: - ERNST - II - HERZOG - VON - SACHSEN - - - Altenburg - ° -
• The rewriting outside is limited to a pearl cord, inside - a circular line.
• To the left of the shoulder deepened - M.H. - for Max Haseroth.

Downside:

• The cross arms, swords and wreath are smooth and silvery.
• The central medal rises with the old embossing like the front.
• On the edge is a circular pearl thread. At a short distance from it, circular,
• stylized laurel wreath with 8 small 5-leaf flowers at a regular distance.
