This award was established jointly by the three Hanseatic cities of Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck in 1915 and was awarded for merits in the war of 1914-1918. 3 infantry regiments of Hanseatic cities (1st Hanseatic Bremen No. 75, 2nd Hanseatic Hamburg No. 76 and 3rd Hanseatic Lübeck No. 162), crews of the warships Bremen, Hamburg and Lübeck, as well as all city residents who fought in other formations. Several other individuals who were not city residents could also be awarded for special military merit. The most famous bearer of all 3 crosses was Manfred von Richthofen.
Silver-plated copper cross with red glass enamel on the front side of the cross sleeves and a round middle shield. Above is an ear with a small ring and a ribbon ring.
