The service awards of the Hanseatic city of Bremen were established by the Bremen Senate on December 21, 1860. Other states have already established service awards for their troops. The reason for Bremen was the participation in the maneuvers of the brigade in 1857. The Bremen were the only ones who did not have service awards. The number of troops was about 750 people, of which about 400 people were constantly in service. The Bremen were attached to the Oldenburg-Hanseatic Brigade as part of the 10th Federal Army Corps.
The gold cross was presented to officers after 25 years of service and the silver cross to non-commissioned officers after 25 years of loyal service. For non-commissioned officers and soldiers, according to the Prussian model, service awards were established in the form of a twine in 3 degrees. The 1st level or class was a gold clasp and was awarded after 20 years. Shown here 2. The tier, silver twine, was granted after 15 years, and the 3rd tier, black iron twine with a silver border, after 10 years of faithful service. Upon promotion to another class, braces had to be returned. Service awards are extremely rare due to troop levels and the existing duty of return. The silver medal was awarded only 21 times. The gold screed was awarded only 30 times, while the iron screed was awarded only 58 times. The manufacturer was Wilkens & Söhne in Bremen.
