The Order of St. Joseph as the home order of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg was established on March 19, 1807 by Grand Duke Ferdinand III. donated. The charter was adopted a year later. The order consisted of 3 classes, a large cross with a breast star, a komtur and a knight. The order was awarded for civil and military merits. Classes were limited to 18 large crosses, 20 komtur and 24 knights. The Catholic faith was a prerequisite. Persons who achieved the preservation of religion and the state were awarded with loyalty and devotion, as well as impeccable morals. Or a noble birth, among foreigners, which gives confidence that the descendants have also distinguished themselves with great merits and feats. The recording took place in a solemn atmosphere with a knightly strike and oath. The award included a diploma and a copy of the charter. The order had to be worn all the time. Violations led to an exception. Personal nobility and the right to add the badge of the order to the coat of arms were associated with the award. After death, the badge of honor was subject to return. The order was transferred by the Grand Duke Ferdinand to the preserved Tuscany and resumed in 1817. It existed until 1860. After joining the kingdom of Bavaria, permission was obtained to continue wearing the order. A well-known manufacturer is the Parisian jeweler Martin Guillaume Bienne. Six-beam cross made of gold. Cross-shaped shoulders with 2 vertices enameled white, gold sides with small balls on the vertices. Between the cross sleeves there are 3 red enameled, gold burgundy, rounded rays. Front and back sides with an overhead high-oval medallion. Between the tops of the upper cruciform shoulder there are two jumpers with a hinge, to which a 5-arched, open ducal crown is movably connected. A ribbon ring passes through the imperial crown apple.
