This field service badge was established on June 4, 1850 by Landgrave Ferdinand of Hesse-Homburg. Hesse-Homburg was a Landgraviate and between 1806 and 1815 and also from 1860 to 1866 part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The soldiers of the Hesse-Homburg Rifle Company, who participated in the 1849 campaign in Schleswig-Holstein against Denmark, distinguished themselves. The number of troops was 203 people. The stamps for the medal were made by the court medalist Schnitzspahn from Darmstadt. The role model was the sign of the field service of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, which was also developed by Professor Christian Schnitzspan. Due to the small number of soldiers, this medal is very rare.
