The Iron War commemorative coins were donated by the Duchy of Anhalt-Köthen in 1819 by Duke Ferdinand Friedrich of Anhalt-Köthen. They were awarded only to the Anhalt-Köten military who participated in the campaigns of 1813-1815 against Napoleon. The medals were also supposed to recall the minor deceased Duke Ludwig, who during this period was under the tutelage of Duke Leopold III. ruled Anhalt-Dessau. A total of 7 nominations were awarded with different indicators. In addition to the simple numbers of 1813, 1814 and 1815, medals with double numbers of 1813/1814, 1813/1815, 1814/1815 and a medal with triple number of 1813/1814/1815 were granted. Medals were minted at the Berlin Institute of Coinage named after G. Loos. Anhalt-Köthen, together with Anhalt-Dessau, formed a common contingent in different years of the war. The share of the armed forces in Köthen is approximately 1/4. The number of military personnel is estimated only on the basis of the number of troops. The 1813 military commemorative coin is one of the rarest, as participants who participated in it in subsequent years acquired the right to another performance, for example, with a double number. For 1813, a maximum of 60 awards are indicated. The presentation included a certificate of award. The color sequence of the ribbon is unclear: white/green or green/white.
