Military commemorative coins for the liberation wars against Napoleon were donated by the Duchy of Anhalt-Köthen in 1819 by Duke Ferdinand Friedrich of Anhalt-Köthen. They were awarded only to the Anhalt-Köten military who took part in the campaigns of 1813-1815. The medals were also supposed to recall the minor deceased Duke Ludwig, who during this period was under the tutelage of Duke Leopold III. ruled Anhalt-Dessau. The front side cipher is one - L - for Ludwig. In total, 7 different medals were issued with different numbers of the year. In addition to the simple annual numbers 1813, 1814 and 1815, medals were awarded with double annual numbers 1813.1814., 1813.1815., 1814.1815., And a medal with three times annual number 1813. 1814/1815. Medals were minted at the Berlin Institute of Coinage named after G. Loos. Double and triple numbers are extremely rare. Anhalt-Köthen, together with Anhalt-Dessau, put up an infantry regiment of about 1,200 people. Köthen's troops consisted of only 2 infantry companies and a reserve of about 1/4 of the total. A maximum of 200 awards are estimated. Source: Gerd Scharfenberg, Order and Badge of Honor of the Anhalt States, 1999 .
