This award was established by King Ernst Augustus along with the General Badge of Honor for Civil Merit on June 5, 1841. Non-commissioned officers and soldiers who distinguished themselves with excellent military merits had the right to admission. Until 1860, the name and service rank of Beliehen was applied along the edge of the medal. After that, only the abbreviated name and surname were noted. The total number of civilian and military merit awards is about 7,000. King George V continued to award the badge of honor after 1866. Source: J.
